More About Your Role

Leveraging its position as Korea's leading mobile communications company, SK Telecom delivers voice, data, and digital content across a wide variety of platforms. SK Telecom, International (SKTI) is the strategic development and investment team of about 12 exploring opportunities to expand SK Telecom's unique business model in North America. You will support SKTI's President and VP of Corporate Development in prospecting new technologies and markets for investment.

To give you an idea of the kinds of projects you will be involved in, one of our most recent ventures is HELIO (www.helio.com), a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). This new mobile brand is custom-built for young, connected consumers. HELIO is a $440 million joint venture that brings together the innovation of SK Telecom and the service and support of EarthLink to deliver a breakthrough mobile communications experience through unique social networking, gaming, entertainment applications, and more.

Your specific activities will include:
  • Developing financial and business models and determining multi-year returns on anticipated global investment initiatives.
  • Producing and maintaining financial, technical, and business models for quarterly and long term forecasts.
  • Aiding in drafting official investor board (private company) meeting documents and presentations.
  • Assisting in the identification and execution of the transactions of mergers & acquisition processes, direct investments, partnerships, alliances, financial structuring, and issuance of equity and debt instruments.
  • Creating situational analyses associated with capital raising activities.
  • Assisting management in formulating financial and strategic initiatives.
  • Co-evaluating and creating competitive and regulatory landscapes documents.
Depending on your aptitude and our needs, you may also be involved in:
  • Performing financial analysis for prospective situations with portfolio companies on P&L responsibility for general business operations, R&D, human resources, sales, and marketing.
  • Assisting with securing financing and resources for continuing and new operations to maximize returns on investments and increase productivity.
  • Building strategic business cases, conducting due diligence and valuations, and structuring negotiations.
  • Conducting general and specific market research on emerging technology and capital markets.
Our goal is to give you solid exposure to field activities, although we often will look to you to remain in the office as "base support" as the VP travels. You can expect to travel between 15% and 30% of the time during the first year, and up to 40% of the time after that. You will travel primarily to San Francisco, New York, and Seoul.

Keys to Success

To excel in this role you will be flexible. Business is conducted differently in the US and Korea, and SKTI necessarily maintains an agile environment, and these two circumstances combine to create a degree of ambiguity from time to time. In addition, in order to be an outstanding Manager of Corporate Development, you will:
  • Enjoy collaborating on a variety of projects, from business models to PowerPoint presentations.
  • Represent the company with a high degree of professionalism as you interact with people from diverse industries.
  • Pay robust attention to the details -- keep up with weekly reports, follow through on all particulars, monitor progress on projects, etc. -- while still grasping the big picture and how the details fit into it.
  • Leverage your communications skills and organizational savvy to navigate both the US and Korean elements of our business.
  • Bring a passion for technology and SK Telecom's vision.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!
